Safe at Home Pet Sitters

Meet Us

Get to know us a little better.

We are proud to be members of Pet Sitters International. We also support many pet charities including our local shelter and the ASPCA. In 2010 we were very fortunate to sponsor Bark in the Park with our local baseball team, the Somerset Patriots! The safety of your pets is very important to us; we are certified by the American Red Cross in pet CPR and first aid and we have experience administering medication including injections and fluids.

Rob & Holly

Robert Nardone, Co-Owner

Robert attended Rutgers University majoring in psychology. He later was accepted to Rutgers business school where he studied marketing and management. He worked as an account executive in both the technology and advertising fields. When Safe at Home Pet Sitters was founded in 2003, Robert kept his full time job to support the household and started pet sitting part time. In July of 2005 Robert resigned to devote all his time to Safe at Home Pet Sitters.

Robert and Melissa both grew up in Scotch Plains and went to the same high school but never knew each other. Luckily they were introduced by Melissa’s best friend over 20 years ago and have been together ever since. Robert grew up without pets but instantly bonded with Melissa’s dogs. It became Robert’s job to walk the dogs before he left Melissa’s house every night.

Robert is certified by the American Red Cross in pet CPR and first aid and can administer injections and fluids. He has experience with dogs, cats, exotic birds, rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, reptiles and fish.

Melissa Nardone, Co-Owner

Before founding Safe at Home Pet Sitters, Melissa worked in various positions in the fashion industry. She is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City with degrees in buying, merchandising and marketing. After several years in corporate America Melissa felt unfulfilled and wanted to make a change. With the support of her husband Robert, Melissa decided to take a chance and in September of 2003 Melissa founded Safe at Home Pet Sitters of NJ. It was the best decision she ever made!

Melissa has been an avid animal lover her entire life and all of her pets are members of the family. She truly believes that a house is not a home without a pet. As a child, growing up in Scotch Plains, Melissa spent many hours at the golf course with her father. He bought her a small set of clubs and told her if she got a hole in one she could have her very own dog. She never got a hole in one but was given her own dog!

Melissa is certified by the American Red Cross in pet CPR and first aid and can administer injections and fluids. She has experience with dogs, cats, exotic birds, rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, reptiles and fish. Robert and Melissa support several animal charities and have rescued or adopted many of their pets.
